Here are the simple guidelines in solving and printing your USA Today crossword puzzle at freedailycrosswords.com
From the homepage menu of freedailycrosswords.com, click “USA TODAY CROSSWORD.”
A new page will show up on your screen that automatically downloads the puzzle. Once downloading is completed, click “Click here to play your puzzle” to proceed with the main menu.
The main menu for LA TIMES Crossword consists of the following:
A. Options – includes the following selections:
1. About This – Includes information about the game.
2. Mute All Sound – This tab allows you to keep the sound on a silent mode.
3. Restore Sound – This tab lets you to bring back the sound.
B. Help – This section includes information and tips about the game.
C. Featured Puzzle – Includes the Title, creator and the date of the crossword puzzle.
To start solving the puzzle, click the box that shows the information about the puzzle.
A new command will show up on your screen to let you choose the puzzle’s skill levels. Just simply click which level you prefer to solve.
Regular Skill Level – This is the default setting. Any letter that is incorrect will appear in a color other than black. This immediately signals an incorrect answer. When you are stumped by a clue, you may use the SOLVE menu options to quickly solve a single letter, a single answer or the entire puzzle.
Master Skill Level – All typed letters (whether correct or incorrect) appear in black. Plus, the options to SOLVE letters, answers or the entire puzzle are disabled.
Once you have chosen which level to play, you can now start to solve the USA TODAY Crossword. Located at the left side is the crossword grid while on the right side are the menu (Options, Print, Solve, Help and Back) timer and the clue lists.
- Begin to solve the crossword puzzle by clicking the clues you want to solve either across or downwards.
Active clues and squares are highlighted in aquamarine color. To change the orientation of the active clue from DOWN to ACROSS, click the square twice or hit it off the clue highlighted in gray from the clue lists on the right side.
Answer the clue by typing the letter or word in the grid.
To select other specific clues, simply click the small arrows at the top and bottom of the clue lists to scroll.
The default color for incorrect answer is red, while black for the correct answer. (Not applicable for MASTER LEVEL)
If you didn’t recognize the correct answer, click “SOLVE” located above the clue lists for the solution. You can choose “SOLVE LETTER, SOLVE WORD or SOLVE PUZZLE,” so the right answers will show up. (Not
applicable for MASTER LEVEL)
OPTIONS – Some other helpful keys are located at the “OPTIONS” tab. Click “Options” and you’ll see the following:
A. Save Puzzle – Allows you to save your crossword puzzle.
B. Reset Puzzle – It will erase all entries you have made and will also reset the puzzle timer. Upon choosing this tab a new window will pop up in the screen to verify resetting the puzzle. You can either choose “Reset (ERASE) All Entries” or “Don’t Reset this Puzzle.”
C. Pause Play – Allows you to have a break from solving the puzzle. “Resume Playing” button appears while on a pause mode. Just click the button when you are prepared to resume.
D. Skill Level – This command let you choose the game’s skill levels.

E. Mute All Sound – Allows you to remove the sound or restore the sound, vice versa.
F. Show Bubbles – Allows you to show the clue on the crossword grid. You can also opt to hide bubbles or vice versa.
G. Clue Font Size – You can change the font size of the clue listed on the clue lists.

I. Exit Puzzle – Allows you to leave the game and return from the main menu.
